Developing Capacity 15: Not Suppressing Thoughts

Verse 18

Look at objects and there is no object: one sees mind;
Look at mind and there is no mind: it is empty of nature;
Look at both of these and dualistic clinging subsides on its own.
May I know sheer clarity, the way mind is.

Meditation

  • Rest in the stillness of mind.
  • Allow thoughts to arise, you are inviting them to appear.
  • Can you block thoughts?
  • Rest free with whatever appears.
  • Remain free of attaching any importance to what appears.
  • Does a thought fully form when you attach no importance to it?
  • Attach importance to a thought.
  • How does it appear?
  • Rest carefree and relaxed with your thoughts.
  • Look directly at a thought.
  • Are you free of being involved with that thought?
  • If you are not free of being involved with a thought, look again directly at a thought.
  • Rest in the recognition of the nature of the mind.

After Meditation

  • Direct experience of a thought is free of concepts.
  • Did you experience the emptiness of a thought, seeing it dissolve upon looking?
  • Can you see the benefit of reminding yourself to recognize the nature of mind?
  • If you find yourself engaging in worry, fear, extreme self-absorption and so forth, recognize how much importance you apply to your thoughts.
  • Look directly at what you have solidified.
  • How does this align with your intention?

During the Day

Connect with your intention.
