Developing Capacity 16: Doing Nothing

Verse 18

Look at objects and there is no object: one sees mind;
Look at mind and there is no mind: it is empty of nature;
Look at both of these and dualistic clinging subsides on its own.
May I know sheer clarity, the way mind is.

Meditation

  • Rest in mind as it is, free from labeling.
  • Rest free from expectation.
  • Recognize the moment of experience and rest there.
  • Rest in thoughts appearing.
  • Rest in the stillness of mind.
  • Rest in thoughts moving.
  • Rest in thoughts changing.
  • Recognize the moment experience begins and rest there.
  • Be open to all experience neither grasping nor pushing away.
  • Rest in mind as it is.

After Meditation

  • What happens when asked, recognize the moment experience begins and rest there?
  • Are there any concerns with being hooked by experience?
  • Are there any concerns with reacting?
  • Are you free of solidifying experiences?
  • What makes you look for results in practice?
  • By knowing the mind as it is, how does it influence your life?
  • Does it appear there is less effort in your life?
  • Do you find you have more opportunities to generate kindness, joy, patience, generosity and so forth?

During the Day

Check your ability to be present in all aspects of life.
Check to see if the mind is at rest more often in experience.
Train in being awake to experience free of constantly being hooked by experience.
