Developing Capacity 4: What is the Experience of Not Knowing?

Verse 18

Look at objects and there is no object: one sees mind;
Look at mind and there is no mind: it is empty of nature;
Look at both of these and dualistic clinging subsides on its own.
May I know sheer clarity, the way mind is.

Meditation

  • Look directly at your mind and rest.
  • Is there an experience of suffering?
  • Is there an experience of good or bad?
  • Is there an experience of energy?
  • Rest in not describing experience.
  • Look directly at your mind and rest.
  • Are you free from chasing the past?
  • Are you free from generating “good” feelings?
  • Are you free from wanting to “know”.
  • Rest in the wonderment of not knowing.

After Meditation

  • Were you able to rest in the wonderment of not knowing?
  • Were you able to rest in not describing experience while meditating?
  • Did you recognize chasing or not chasing after the past?
  • Were you free of wanting “good” feelings?

During the Day

Take moments of resting in the wonderment of not knowing.
Notice when you are chasing the past.
Notice when you are trying to have good feelings.
