Developing Capacity 5: Mirror and its Reflections

Verse 18

Look at objects and there is no object: one sees mind;
Look at mind and there is no mind: it is empty of nature;
Look at both of these and dualistic clinging subsides on its own.
May I know sheer clarity, the way mind is.

Meditation

  • Allow the mind to rest like a mirror and its reflections.
  • See the mind like the mirror.
  • Does the mind like the mirror need to reach out to its reflections or does it allow the reflections to float on its surface?
  • The reflections are like experience always appearing.
  • Like the mirror rest free of becoming involved with reflections allowing them to appear unobstructed.
  • Rest naturally, free of being involved with any reflections.
  • Rest free of accepting and rejecting.
  • Let the mind rest naturally.

After Meditation

  • Have you cleared up confusion that you have about the mind and the ornaments of the mind, its thoughts?
  • Does this lessen the grip of having to think about experience?

During the Day

Rest several times during the day like the mind and its reflections.
Recognize they are inseparable.
Take moments to be free of the urge to conceptualize about what you are experiencing.
Be with experience.
