Verse 25: Dedication

Through the compassion of buddhas and bodhisattvas in the ten directions
And the power of pure virtue wherever it may be,
May these wishes and those of all beings
Be fulfilled in keeping with our prayers.

Commentary

The final wish is dedication.

In reading this prayer, you have learned or reviewed the path of the sutra
tradition of mahamudra. You have made twenty-four wishes, and this is the
twenty-fifth. As you read this last verse, feel what you have done. Feel what
happens every time you read or recite this prayer. Feel how it touches you
physically. Feel how it affects you emotionally. And feel how it is to go over all
these points about mahamudra and its practice.

Now take a few moments and feel in yourself the possibility of infinite
compassion and unfathomable emptiness, and the peace and freedom they open.
Form the wish that the good you have done will, in some strange or miraculous
way, help others to make a similar effort and come to know a similar peace and
freedom. Make that wish from the bottom of your heart.

Then call on the compassion of buddha and bodhisattvas through all time and
space. Call also on the power of virtue, wherever it may be—a kindness to a
stranger, a helping hand to someone who has fallen, a gift to someone in need, a
word of advice to a family member who is confused. Call on both those powers
to bring to fruition the wishes you have made with this prayer and the wishes
that all beings everywhere make every day.
